Making Character Education a Priority in Schools: Me Work. We Work. The Work.
Schools often jump straight to classroom strategies when implementing character education then wonder why it is ineffective.  This work must first be personal.  Before we can help our students develop character, we need to examine our own.  Secondly, before teachers can help students understand the importance of respecting others, they must respect one another.  The’ Me Work’ and the ‘We Work’ is foundational to ‘The Work’ of implementing effective character education.

The Why and How of Character Education: Be S.M.A.R.T.

Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) ask three questions: 1) What do we want our students to know? 2) How will we know if they have learned?  3) What will we do if they haven’t learned?  These questions are critical to character education, yet they are often ignored.  Creating Strategic, Measurable, Attainable, Results-oriented, Time-bound (S.M.A.R.T.) goals are what make character education initiatives successful.  Using the PRIMED model, you will learn what to focus on and how to develop measurable goals to ensure your character education initiative is effective.
